According to China Software Association, the country¡¯s software industry grew rapidly in 2001. Total software sales revenue in China amounted to 33 billion yuan, up 38.7% over 2000¡¯s 23.8 billion. System software accounted for 5 billion of the total, up 50.6%; supporting software accounted for 8.19 billion, up 65.1%; application software accounted for 19.81 billion, up 27.7%. Embedded software revenue amounted to 4.8 billion in 2001, accounting for 14.5% of the total.
Foreign brands retained complete dominance in high-end system software and database markets, and dominated the middle ware, industry application software and ERP software markets. Domestic brands, on the other hand, were better off in ERP and financial management software, anti-virus software, Chinese processing software and some industry application fields.
